Ember Mudgee

Escape to Mudgee.

Nestled in the heart of New South Wales’ scenic countryside, Mudgee is a charming destination known for its rolling vineyards, historic streetscapes, and relaxed country elegance. Just a few hours’ drive from Sydney, Mudgee offers the perfect blend of rural tranquillity and refined indulgence.

You can explore a variety of cellar doors and artisan produce markets, or simply unwind while taking in the region’s undulating landscapes and wide-open skies. The town itself features beautifully preserved heritage buildings, stylish cafés, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that reflects its rich pastoral history.

Whether you’re here for a romantic escape, a weekend with friends, or a peaceful retreat, Mudgee invites you to slow down, savour the moment, and experience one of Australia’s most beloved wine regions in comfort and style.

We love spending our time visiting local favorites and sharing that with our friends. Here's a short list of our favorite local wineries some of our go to things to do in the region.

Vino vino vino!

Mudgee has no shortage of award-winning, and quite simply put, fantastic wineries in the region. We’ve found that we still haven’t been able to visit all of them, and leaving that bit of discovery for the next trip is something that comforts us every time we leave.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, or looking for a new perspective on what to put on your list this trip, below are just a couple of our current favorites we always love to return to.

Yeates Wine

Family-owned and run, drop in for a tasting, or for a glass (or two) of wine at the end of the day, sitting on their veranda or lounging in the grass during golden hour.

Burrundulla

One of the oldest wineries in the Mudgee region, we always try to have one of their reds in stock at home at all times.

Rosby Wines

Another family-owned and operated, some of our favorites have been drunk at Rosby. Not only do they do wines, they are patrons of the arts and host the annual Sculptures in the Gardens and facilitate art workshops.

Out and about town.

Although most people come for the wine, we hope you discover some of our other local favorites from cafes to activities while in the Mudgee region.

Old Wheels Grind Coffee & Doughnuts

Who doesn’t love a donut truck? Check out their Instagram page to know when the GF donuts are featured!

Althea by Zin

Our go-to for that coffee and morning pastry. Take it to go or sit in their courtyard to slow things down.

Zin House

Part of Lowe Family Wines, they offer farm-to-table delights at Zin House on their estate. We were big fans of the previous iteration of their dining experience, but their current more casual approach should be much more drop-in friendly.

Paragon Hotel

For a small country town, you have many options for the classic pub experience, but we’ve found the Paragon Hotel to be our favorite. Good food and a cozy courtyard dining space, and a fireplace in winter.
